Potty Training

There are many other posts I still want to add but I have a simple, humerous update for today.

I know from a prior trial that potty training can be tough to do on your own. It takes a lot of focus, commitment and patience... And that's best achieved with two people. Now Aaron and I work opposite shifts so the only time we have together is on the weekends... And this weekend happens to be very long for me! I have Monday off for the holiday, I have Tuesday off per my usual part time schedule, and I have Wednesday off as a comp day since I work the following Saturday... So I have a five day weekend. I know right? A five day weekend and we're potty training instead of going somewhere for a little vacation... That's because I just connected the dots of my days off on Thursday.

Anywho, it's still a busy weekend as we are helping to open the cottage and doing house work as we prep for our newest family member, so our commitment and focus aren't quite where we'd like them to be. But here's how our day went:

I started off by putting Avett on the toilet every twenty minutes but it seemed like it was way more often than it needed to be. He didn't pee for the first two hours. Then he went and played in the water for a long while so who knows what happened there.

He finally had his first pee as we were getting ready to leave... But he peed in his pants and on Aaron who was carrying him to the car.

On our way home, we decided to stop at Kathryn and Aaron's house to check out how it's coming along but neither were home yet. So as we waited, Avett wandered around bare butt while Aaron and I weeded some of their gardens.

Soon after Aaron came home and went to hang out with the little guy, only to report that Avett had stepped in poop. Fortunately with his crocks on. I found the pile of poop on the driveway and it was massive. Like it had to have come from a large dog or grown adult. But the latter would have been really odd. Thor's response was "It wasn't there when I mowed the lawn" and Aaron's response was "that looks awfully fresh".

Between that and a closer inspection of Avett's rear, the conclusion was that he was the culprit. I couldn't believe it. It's actually pretty disgusting how grown up his BM was.

He pooped. I was all out of clean, dry clothes... So he continued to walk around naked. Then he sat down on the front stoop that had a ton of pine needles and other shrubbery shreds... He didn't sit for long. And after a few minutes and another close inspection of his rear, Avetts butt crack was full of all this yucky yard gunk. I literally had to spread his butt cheeks and carefully wipe pine needles out of his bum hole. He didn't cry, but if it was me... I would have, for sure!

We had a few more typical accidents at home but by the end of the night, Avett was enjoying sitting on his potty. We just sat in the bathroom and had lots of conversation while he enjoyed his little throne... Still no pee or poop in the potty yet today, but we had progress by the end of the day.

(And along the lines of potty, Avett had an innocent potty mouth today. Totally my fault. Avett was insisting on watching a movie. I was insisting on not doing that. So Avett would take a DVD out and I would put t back. And every DVD I put back on the shelf would result in another one falling out the back. So after like the fourth time, I let out a nice little "God dammnit"... And then so did Avett. I ignored it. He said it again and I grabbed the Despicable Me DVD and said "da minion" to which he responded "yep"... So let's see if he now thinks I said "da minions" instead of "damnit"... Or if he'll just start referring to the moving as "damnit".)

Hopefully tomorrow goes a little better.
