Haddie's weight

We had a follow-up appointment for Haddie yesterday to discuss the effects of Zantac. Haddie is a completely different person now that she is on reflux medicine! She is so much more content and we are really starting to see her personality shine! She smiles all of the time now and is rarely fussy. Such a 180 from what we were dealing with before. I think because there had always been an underlying layer of fussiness, we had adapted to that lifestyle which made us so used to her normal level of fussing that we didn't truly recognize how uncomfortable she was. Now it's ever so apparent and it breaks my heart that we didn't trust our instincts initially. She could have been feeling better months ago and we all would have experienced a lot less frustration!
She weighed in at 12#, 11.5oz which was a 3.5oz weight gain over 8 days. Although it wasn't a huge jump, it was just enough to start her climbing upwards on her growth chart. The doctor was very happy with this! Although she hasn't taken in more volume, she is taking her bottles so much easier and quicker.
We have now determined that she was most likely self-restricting her volume intake due to the discomfort it caused. We are hoping to still see her volumes go up as she realizes eating is no longer a negative exoerience. We have her four month appointment in 10 days so between now and then, I actually get to try nursing her again! In the morning and after work, when I have large volume, I still have to pump off a few ounces so that she is getting the hind milk when she nursed. She has a hard time latching last night on both attempts but has been doing well this morning!

  1. It's so wonderful to hear all of the positive changes!! Don't beat yourself up about the past. The main thing is the positive progress right now!! She's a tough cookie!
