A great day

I woke up feeling ambitious about the day. I set my alarm so that I would be showered and ready to go by the time Aaron called on his way to the grocery store. We got our meal planned for the week and an extra meal planned to freeze for when baby's here. While Aaron shopped and Avett slept, I stripped the bed, dusted the downstairs and made a pancake breakfast. Once everyone was home/up and fed, we left the house for the zoo. Aaron hadn't been in a while because pretty much all of June was spent doing bedroom make overs! So Avy and I showed him our favorite hot spots -- this of course included the giraffes! And FINALLY, we crossed their path at a time that they had tickets for sale to feed them! Avett and I waited patiently in line, and then I held Avett while he fed the giraffe some lettuce. It was unbelievable! Those giraffes eat very quickly and have such a crazy long tongue! You could actually see the pink vs black line on its tongue for the part that gets exposed to the sun! So crazy!! Avett was all about it; totally not afraid! This was running close to nap time and he was getting cranky. So afterwards we pretty much hit up the fish and went about the rest of our errands.
When we got home, Avett took a nap. Aaron made eggplant Parmesan. And I dealt with stupid HR BS that is still completely unresolved and basically not initiated. When Aaron went to bed, I took a nap. And when Avett woke up, I started making lasagna to freeze. I have never made lasagna before, but now I know: if someone brings you a pan of lasagna, they really love you. Because it takes a long time to make!
3 hours later, I finally finished cleaning up my mess and Avett and I went and joined Harken outside. I watered the garden while Avett ran around antagonizing Harken and loving every second of it. We worked on our "sit", "lay down", and "stays" with Harken; and Avett worked on counting from 1-12. I would give Harken a command, Avett and I would assume our racing positions, he would count and then all three of us would race around the yard. We seriously did have a blast, all three of us.
After playing outside, we went in for some dinner. And after dinner I took Avett upstairs and had him play while I put his clothes away. When I was finished, I put Avett on the toilet. He didn't fuss and even asked for his tooth brush. And while he was brushing his teeth, he pooped! A big old poop! And acted like it was no big deal. But not me! That boy got ice cream and M&Ms for that good deed. This was actually his second time pooping on the potty (the first was July 9th, with Daddy), but I wanted to make sure he felt really reinforced so as to do it again (without a ten day span in between)!
So yeah, I'd say between feeding giraffes and dropping a deuce in the toilet, today has been a really great day!
