So these will be a bunch of blurred lines trying to recall and differentiate all of Avett's changes and milestones at 33 and 34 months old.
Avett celebrated New Years (and a belated Christmas) at his Grandma and Grandpa Bollwahn's. The Roberts family was there as well, and Avett and Maxwell have to be the two cutest things in the world together! The boys each got a trampoline from Uncle Brandon and Aunt Katie and they had a great time testing it out together.
At 33 months, Avett was solidly wearing both 2T tops and bottoms, and still in size 5 diapers. He continues to have ongoing intermittent wet diapers when sleeping. His willingness to go to the bathroom was still a battle, especially for poopoos. Nowadays, he is generally much better about going to the bathroom and in the past week has even come up to tell me when he had to go potty just a handful of times. He also prefers to pick out his own clothes.
At 33 months, he continued to be the. Pickiest. Eater. Ever! With his ongoing routine of cereal for breakfast, PB sandwich for lunch and pretty much nothing for dinner. Lately, he has been a bit better. He eats cereal, oat mean or bagels for breakfast. He still has a PB sandwich for lunch, but now he's totally crazy for yogurt and a little more open minded with some fruits (blueberries and bananas). He primarily drinks water and milk, but won't ever scoff at juice in the rare times we offer it. He continues to be a carb junkie and has quite the nose for sweets!
He has always enjoyed baths, especially when he can take a bath with all of his animals. He also continues to participate in brushing his teeth nicely. Lately, he feels the need to be the one to flush the toilet and if we're upstairs, he likes to stand in his stool, wash his hands, rinse all the "bubbles" off, and take a drink of "big water" from his Dixie cup.
He has never been a morning person and that continues to be the solid truth. He is quite miserable to get out of bed, unless it's on his own time. Any rushing and your met with complete opposition. He generally likes to wake up, play with the blinds, read his books, talk with his animals or just have imaginary play time. On two occasions the stinker has managed to open the door and come downstairs on his own. I was honestly so proud of him the first time it happened!
For the past couple of months, Avetts interests have included: watching movies (Jungle Book, Finding Dorey, Monsters vs Aliens and Paw Patrol), and playing with his dinosaurs and animal figurines (and inquiring about their genitalia). He is phasing out his roaring (though not completely) and replacing it with howling. He used to play make believe with his kitchen, cart and food all of the time. Recently, he has been playing more with his cars, planes and big trucks. He has a basketball hoop and every once in a while, will enjoy dunking in it. Now that the weather is nicer and we have been able to enjoy the outdoors, he likes racing with his lawn mower and playing in his sand box. The few times we've ventured to the park, he's actually been brace enough to go down the slides again but primarily sticks to the swings. He and Harken are getting along much better together. I felt like I was always having to yell at Avett to leave the dog alone but Harken has been enjoying his company much more. Avett is very concerned about Harken and doesn't like having to leave him behind on family outings. Avett is also much more attentive to Haddie. He likes to hold her. He brings her toys and shows her how to crawl. He loves stealing puffs from her! He always tries to cheer her up when she's crying, some encouragement provided. He has just started singing her lullabies and if we're running errands, he rocks her in her car seat. He loves watching her take a bath. One night in the past couple of weeks, I got the sink ready with her bath and then I took her upstairs to change her out of her diaper. When I came downstairs, Avy had pushed his chair all the way over to the sink and was standing there waiting for us. He's done it ever since. He likes to pour water on her and brush her hair. . He calls Haddie "Patty, Patty Cakes, and Blu Eyes". He loves to say "Hey Blue Eyes, stop picking your nose!!!" And of course "PATTY BE QUIET!!!" when she's crying. Contrary to Avett's message, he is the one who is actually obsessed with picking his nose. Fortunately no booger eating. One night while he was picking his nose he kept telling me that he was hungry, so I kept telling him "then stop picking your nose. Picking your nose makes you hungry. If you stop you'll be full." That lie didn't work. I have to think of something else though because I'm afraid just repeatedly telling him to stop is going to make him want to keep going!
Speaking of singing, I had no idea that he actually learned the lyrics to some of the lullabies I sing to the kids but he knows Teinkle Twinkle, Rock a Bye Baby, Happy Birthday and generally the ABCs. (I don't know if you can technically call those last two lullabies though!) He can count to 15 on his own, and then just keeps repeating 15: 12, 13, 14, 15, 15, 15, 15! With some help he can get to 20. He does try to count individual items. He is getting better at counting then 1:1 but then when he runs out of objects he just keeps counting. So say there are three dogs on a page. He'll individually count them "1, 2, 3" and then keep counting because I think he thinks he always has to go to 10! We are just starting to try and learn our letters and the sounds they make but this is in the very beginning stages. He can recite so many books, which is the cutest thing ever, but now I'm trying to get him to recognize that these words he's saying correlate to the word on the page, AKA reading. Some of his favorite books are "Don't Take a Dinosaur to Dinner", "How do Dinosayrs Say Goodnight?" A shark book, a Dorey book, and a Paw Patrol book. When he colors, I always try to teach him how to draw a circle or a triangle and he used to hate that! He just wanted to go balls to the wall with scribbling. But lately I see him coloring more intentionally, like actually trying to zone in on coloring in a shape or body part on the page, but trust me there's still plenty of scribbling and coloring outside of the lines. A few times he's asked me to help him draw a circle.
In February we went up north to visit the Roberts for the twins' birthdays. Avett and Maxwell didnmore trsmpoline jumping, terrorizing the dogs, going out to eat and running around! Then just this past weekend Nana and Papa cake over to visit. Avett got his trampoline all set up to enjoy! We went over to my parents to see the progress on their downstairs Reno and then out to dinner to the Delafield Brewhaus. On Sunday morning we went to the zoo! We've had a couple of nuce days so we always try to take advantage of the zoo! Especially because Avett is so into animals. This last trip, we saw the baby tiger cubs, the elephant and their big poopoos, the tiger roaring! But not the z-zah-bras. That's his accurate recall of the day. My boys memory is insane! It's unbelievable how much he remembers, how long he remembers it and how much his vocabulary has grown because of it!
Gosh you are so so smart avett!! I can't believe you're counting to 15!! I love that you're such a good big brother to your sister and your puppy! I'm glad you're such a great big cousin too!! I have a feeling you'll be reading in no time with the memory you have! I loved hearing about your day at the zoo!! Make sure Patty doesn't pick her nose. You should show her how big kids don't pick their nose!! We love and miss you ❤🐯🐨🐻🐮🐷🐰🐘🐵🐧🐢🐔🐏🐐🐅🐫🐊🐆🐇🐼🐴🐺🐗💙
