This week we were plagued with the flu. Avett started us off on Monday with some diarrhea. I wasn't sure if it was related to illness or teething, but by Tuesday evening I had my answer. I was rocking Avett to sleep in his room when I kept hearing Aaron get up and go to the bathroom. The poor guy was vomiting on the hour. I decided to sleep downstairs so that I wouldn't get sick, but that was worthless. Around 10 I started getting nauseous, but I tried telling myself it was all in my head. But by 2 AM I had chills and gastrointestinal issues. Avett was the one who handled it most like a champ. You wouldn't even have known he was sick; he just went about life like normal. Meanwhile I was feeling rather sleep deprived. Lucky for me, Avett's new playroom was in the room I was using as my bedroom. He was able to keep himself fairly well occupied while I rested. Kathryn helped out a bit and played with him so that I could get some solid sleep while Aaron also worked on sleeping off his flu bug. By Wednesday evening I was symptom free and Aaron was back to normal on Thursday. Kathryn started having some symptoms late Wednesday but they really came to a head on Thursday. Avett finally started having solid poops and a bigger appetite on Friday.
My protocol for work is that I cannot return to work until 48 hours after my last symptom. So I basically had Thursday and Friday off with Aaron as well. The only thing you can do when you have off during the coldest week of the year is house chores. We hung up a bunch of picture frames in the spare bedroom and living room, did some finishing touches upstairs, and took down all of our Christmas decor! We ran some donations to Goodwill and did umpteen loads of laundry. It wasn't necessarily fun but it was productive nonetheless!
Ugh that sounds like an epic family flu and no fun at all. Glad that has passed for you guys. I'm sure all your crazy work and travel schedule left you a little vulnerable.
