Today is all about the sixes. Baby Avy turned 6 months old! He was the lucky recipient of 6 vaccinations. He weighs 16 pounds and is 26 inches long... In case you are keeping close track, our baby has shrunk. That's the Wiedmeyer genes at its finest! Just kidding, the doctor re-measured today and re-confirmed he was 26 inches, thus concluded they got the wrong height two months ago.
Our next appointment is in three months. Between now and then we have quite a few things to look forward to. Avett can start using those mesh bags that you fill with solids to gnaw on in order to target hand-to-mouth coordination and chewing. We can also start feeding him some of those puff-type cereals/snacks. Avett can start learning to drink from sippy cups filled with water. He can have a snuggle buddy in the crib with him to help decrease separation anxiety which reportedly increases at this time... and then a bunch of developmental milestones like saying his first word - mama, and his second word - dada ;-), crawling, self-feeding, first tooth, etc.
Avett's current development: able to sit independently for a fairly significant amount of time; rolls from back to tummy and tummy to back very frequently; starting to do a teensy tiny bit of pushing himself forward with his feet and stickin that butt up in the air; reaches, grabs and
holds things, squawks alllll the time and giggles a lot more! Eats pureed foods, usually 1 1/2 containers a day eaten over 3 feedings. Opens his mouth now when you make the airplane noise and/or present the spoon. Usually sleeps 7 hours and sometimes through the whole night. Changes his own diapers and does the laundry...
just dreaming!
Likes: his hands and feet, his hands and feet in his mouth, everything in his mouth, being nearly naked, his activity table...can actually stand flat footed, turn himself around in it and can play with each of the items now! Loves to hold on to blankets, especially a blanket from Auntie Ashley with satin edging. My mom hung up a Frankenstein window clinger upstairs... Avett loves to stop and smile at him. Also loves to smile at himself in the mirror. Still enjoys being outside, though he doesn't sit long in his stroller. As far as food goes, he likes his fruit, sweet potatoes and carrots, but he doesn't turn away from much food. LOVES to sleep on his belly.
Dislikes: Thankfully, not much to report here.
